Thud. Clatter. Thud. Clatter. Thud. Just out the shower and getting ready for the day, Dad heard the dull sound on object hitting the drywall outside the bedroom. Each thud was followed by the clatter of object hitting the hardwood floor. It sounded like a phone. Sigh. The thuds and clatters abruptly stopped.

Dad quickly attempted to pull on his pants and started hopping down the hallway toward the kitchen. A new sound began. Thump. Crunch. Crunch. Thump. He turned the corner to see Mom with the sharpening rod from the knife block in her hand. She held it high, clenched tight, like a dagger; and on her face was a look of pure rage. Her hand came down again and again, the rod sometimes connecting with the face of Dad's iphone and sometimes striking the butcher block on which it it lay.

He texted (from his other phone) his Mom, who was having a cup of coffee down the block, asking her to come back immediately.

Dad's iPhone after stabbed repeatedly by the sharpening rod from the kitchen knife block in March 2018 shortly after Mom and Evie's move to San Francisco.

Mom would later write in her "abuse log" that she had begun destroying the phone and other electronics in the house because the wifi had been turned off.

Dad carried an iPhone 5s in those days, the last designed by Steve Jobs. It was small and heavy. A brick compared to more modern phones, Mom's full-force overhand throws against the drywall had barely scratched it.

Undaunted, she grabbed the sharpening rod. A baker's dozen strikes later, the phone was destroyed. Her eyes darted across the room past Dad toward and locked in on the laptop on the kitchen counter. She moved toward it, but Dad was closer.

A chase began around the kitchen island as Dad attempted to hold the laptop high and out of the reach of Mom's swinging arms.

Dad's Mom showed up and Mom was still upset. Grandma wrote a whole statement about it if you want to read it. Everyone was worried about Mom so she called her Psychiatrist and explained what had happened. She reported back,

"I just spoke with my Psychiatrist and she confirmed I am not Psychotic or a harm to the baby."

Dad didn't know what to think and went to stay at a hotel for the next couple of days. His Mom and my Mom stayed together at the house. Mom didn't like that he wasn't available and asked his security,

"Can I still not talk to Steve?"

They did not speak for a few days.
